Hotel Block
We've got a deal with the lovely people at the Plaza Hotel for our travelers.
This is a classic Milwaukee hotel that is relatively centrally located, decorated in its original art deco style, and home to one of Daniel's favorite diner-style cafes. If you like the hotel experience, we have reserved a discounted block of rooms ranging from $155 - $190 per night.
To reserve:
-
Call the front desk at 414-276-2101
-
Mention you're with the Ohly-Kellogg wedding
-
Use discount code 1354
Do be aware, it's an old building with no elevator. If you have mobility issues or concerns, ask to stay on the first floor. Please feel free to give us a call or e-mail if you need any help with this.
Gifts/Registry
To be blunt, we are requesting no gifts.
Most of you, our dearest friends and family, are traveling for our wedding day and we are truly appreciative of the time, effort, and cost that you are spending to be there. We see your attendance as a gift in and of itself, and we have so much in our lives already that we are incredibly grateful for.
If, for some reason, you still feel compelled to gift, we would request a donation to our honeymoon fund. We will be flying out of Milwaukee to the Big Apple, baby! We will spend one night out in the city, and then will be taking the train upstate to see the leaves change, rest, relax, hike, and practice calling each other “husband” and “wife”.
A link to that is right here.
Getting to Milwaukee
Flights
Milwaukee's airport (Mitchell International) is relatively small. Security checks go pretty quickly, and there's not a lot of space between gates. (As a note, you can buy New Glarus Beer to go at a number of places here to put in your luggage)
Due to its size, flights can be somewhat limited, both in timing and in the carriers.
Rail
Because of that, one of our favorite things to do is to fly in to or out of Chicago. This can add a fun side quest to your trip, as it's another world class city about 90 minutes away.
Chicago has two large airports, O'Hare and Midway. From either airport, you can take a city train (O'Hare is the Blue line, Midway is the Orange line) downtown to Chicago's Union Station.
Once there you can take the Amtrak- Hiawatha line from downtown Chicago right to the heart of downtown Milwaukee. The trip lasts about an hour and a half, costs between $20-40, depends upon how in advance you buy your ticket.
Sounds a bit crazy, but it's really not, also trains are a lot of fun. Also you can potentially save a couple hundred bucks.
AirBnb/VRBO/Vacation Rental
They are all plentiful in Milwaukee if this is an avenue you would like to take. Most of our wedding events are happening in the Bay View neighborhood, and the ceremony is in the Upper Eastside neighborhood.
We would suggest looking in those areas. If you have any questions feel free to reach out!
Lyft/Uber/Rideshare
Milwaukee is a small city. It’s really inconsequential to get an Uber or Lyft. The rides are plentiful and relatively inexpensive.
